Workshop Summary

Working at the nexus of restoration science and practice is exciting and rewarding, but how do students and emerging professionals get a taste of what it’s like to work at this nexus and get the best of their career in restoration? And where do you go from there?

In this session, the SER Students and Emerging Professionals Committee along with the SER Certification Program Manager will discuss ways in which students and emerging restorationists can effectively advocate for their career pathways, engage with the larger restoration community, and learn what is required to become a Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner or Practitioner-in-Training.

Listen to individuals describe their first steps (and ongoing experiences) in the world of ecological restoration. Discover the benefits of SER’s Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP) program. Each speaker will talk about serving the premier ecological restoration organization in the world and how you can become a part of it.

Then, learn what is required to meet the academic and experience background necessary to become a CERP, how to complete an application, and critical deadlines. Get answers to your application questions from SER staff, and spend time with SER staff and CERPs to work on your own application with experts available to support you, answer questions, provide guidance and feedback, or help you troubleshoot any technical challenges. Ecological restoration practitioners who are still deciding whether CERP makes sense for them, or those who have begun an application but have specific questions, are also encouraged to attend.
